Zulema Hechavarria Blanco
Flutist , bandleader , composer , percussionist , vocalist and choreographe.
Born in Santiago de Cuba the 19 December 1973 , graduated in 1999 at the Instituto Superior
de Artes in Havana ( Cuba ) , and in 2000 she started to study at the Royal Conservatory in
Antwerp ( Belgium ) , where she got her Master Degree in Music as a flutist
Havana was the place where Zulema achieved her first musical successes.
She specializes in local folklore and traditional Afro-Cuban music
and it is still the source of inspiration for her.
In Belgium she has played with various bands and artists : Zap Mama , El Tattoo del Tigre ,
Helmut Lotti , Raymond Van Het Groenewoud . . .
Besides that she has also performed in various projects such as : Campina Reggae ,
Brassafrique , Descarga de Amberes , Mucho Gusto . . .
In 2010 she started her project : ZuleMax
In 2017 : Zulema's Mambo Queens
In 2018 : Tacones Altos
In 2010 , Zulema started her own project ZuleMax , 12 women , 6 nationalities.
With ZuleMax , she wants the woman on the musical foreground. Unique in Europe.
In 2017 , Zulema takes us back to the nightlife in Havana of the fifties.
With her big band of 24 women , she brings a mix of mambo and swing.
In 2018 , Zulema started a new project Tacones Altos.
With this band she brings popular , danceable , Latin music.
